  • I met this man on the banks of the Ganges, in Benares, in India, not far from a cremation.
    A leper, with no hands or legs, deprived of sight and touch, for him the world was nothing but sounds and smells. This was why, it seemed to me, he had chosen to live in a market, by the side of the sacred river, from which came a thousand perfumes, spices and human smells.
